 "Happy" 2010-02-08
By J. J. Vuuren (Pretoria, Gauteng, ZA)
I compared prices of the Nikon and the Opteka and then decided to go for the Opteka. I don't use it that much, but boy is it handy for low angles and macro photography. I'm sorry to say that the Nikon product is totally overpriced for the amount of times I'm going to use it. Delivery was fast, it was like 5 days and I had it. I live and work in Pretoria, South Africa. The only drawback is the postage, more than double the price of the product but hey still a lot cheaper than the Nikon product. I just want to say thankyou for a great product.

 "Opteka Right Angle Viewer" 2009-12-19
By J. Ellis (Portland, Oregon)
All though my tripod goes down to 4 inches above the ground, I was finding it impossible to see through my viewfinder at very low levels. After reviewing several right angle viewers, I selected the Opteka mainly based on cost. The others viewers were more than three times more expensive than this model. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. The build quality seems to be fine. It is easy to attach/detach and on my Nikon D300 it is very stable. I can see my subject and my camera settings clearly through the viewfinder. The angle of view is a right angle however. No fudging, you must look directly down into the viewer. Some of the photographs I have taken so far have been small flowers, moving water and walking feet, all of these at ground level but not extreme macro work. I'm enjoying this little tool and would recommend it.Opteka Professional 1X-2X Right Angle Viewfinder for Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, & Pentax Digital SLR Cameras

"Many Optical Aberrations - Low Quality - Overpriced" 2009-11-26
By Directed Energy (USA)
If possible, I would RATE THIS ITEM 2.75 STARS

I have had the Opteka Professional 1X-2X Right Angle Viewfinder for several months and have used the device in a variety of situations and lenses, mounted to a Pentax K-20D camera.

For starters, to classify this product as having been designed and built to a professional standard and grade is a true stretch of the imagination. In terms of optical quality, I have seen better optics in a $20 pair of binoculars.

First, the coupling optics in the Opteka finder are not large enough to see the entire K-20D viewfinder frame (see photo), a very typical DSLR. Because of this, there is a lot of edge clipping in the camera's viewfinder field of view. This makes the corners dark and hard to see objects in those areas of the camera frame during low lighting conditions to get proper subject composition.

Second, the quality of the Opteka view finder optical design and the lenses used could be described as sub marginal at best. Only the central area or about 12-15 percent of the K-20D viewfinder frame (see photo) is suitable for obtaining critical focus when the Opteka right angle viewfinder is mounted to the camera. Spherical aberration, coma, field distortion and off axis chromatic aberration are very bad. With the Opteka finder integrated, it is hard to read the digital displays in the camera's viewfinder.

Because the aberrations in the right angle finder's optical system are too uncontrolled, the finder becomes less functional as lighting conditions drop. The high level of optical aberrations also has a negative impact on image contrast in the finder. Since contrast in the finder is low, it is difficult for a typical person in their 40's and older to judge best focus at dusk as not enough focused light and contrast is visable to the older person. A side effect of maximum pupil size as a function of a person's increasing age.

Third, the molded plastic Pentax adapter piece (see photo) for the Opteka right angle finder slips off much too easily from the view finder. Too little manufacturing tolerance control is built into the part, for that reason, the finder does not stay in place when pointed downwards or mounted upside down such as when the camera is piggybacked on to a telescope mount, or rotated about the optical axis.

Forth, the surface finish on the Opteka finder exterior is not very good. Note the excess paint build up (see photo) and blistering on the diagonal housing. This, although minor, is a reflection of the generally low standards at Opteka.

Last, the bottom half of the Velcro base pad for the finder's case lid was not sewn on to the case properly (see photo). The stitching misses the lower part of the Velcro pad. Hence, the case cover could rip the Velcro base pad off, if not careful when opening the case. Note in the photo how the case lid tries to pull off the Velcro base pad.

In conclusion, Opteka seams to exhibit little quality control in their manufacturing process for this many issues to surface in a single product. The low quality of optics in this Opteka finder is easily superseded in quality by a pair of $20 dollar binoculars. The case and related camera adapter in their current form are essential add on items that offer very little value to the overall purchase. All things considered, with a purchase price of 49.95, the Opteka right angle finder, in my opinion, is overpriced.

Minus 1.00 for all of the optical aberrations.

Minus 0.50 for the clipping of the field edges.

Minus 0.25 for sloppy finder to camera adapter fitting.

Minus 0.25 for low quality finish.

Minus 0.25 for low quality construction of the finder case.

Additional note: The large recent (Winter 2009-10) increase in the list price of this item to the ridiculous and stratospheric price of 199.00, for the purpose of projecting to an unknowing customer the erroneous perception of receiving a "good deal" is unethical. Regardless of the motivation, raising an arbitrary value such as the list price for a marginal item that is all ready over valued does not make a purchase any more agreeable but simply laden's the sale with more deceit.

 "Nice basic filter set" 2009-12-30
By R. Holen (Minnesota)
I bought this set for one of my older cameras after I broke the UV filter. For digital you will probably never use the FLD filter, but for film it's a must. The UV and CPL will be the most used for me, but every now and then I'll need the FLD for indoor film shots to correct for fluorescent lighting. These filters are worth it for the price. The polarizer works great for both film and digital. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to anyone needing filters for their camera.

"Affordable Filters : Good Performance" 2009-09-19
By Chuck C. (Atlanta, GA)
I searched for the cheapest filters I could find, thinking that if they didn't perform well, then at least they would help protect my new Raynox HD-5050LE Pro High Definition Wide Angle Lens for Camcorders from accidental damage. I'm no expert, but for the price these filters seem to perform very nicely. I checked the Circular Polarizing Filter (CPL) by looking through it at my LCD TV, and my laptop LCD screen, (and rotating) and holding it up to a mirror front and back, and it passed with 'flying colors'.

I haven't had a chance to really evaluate the two other filters, but I expect similar results: good performance at a rock bottom price. Nice filters to experiment with for the price of clear lens protectors, you just can't beat this deal.

 "What I wanted." 2009-09-06
By J. Barram
I bought the "Zeikos ZE-FLK62 62mm Multi-Coated 3 Piece Filter Kit (UV-CPL-FLD)" and the "Digital Concepts 67mm Video Filter Kit with UV Protection, Polarizer, & Fluorescent Daylight Filters and Filter Carrying Case" about a month ago. I wanted affordable filters that I wouldn't mind damaging and replacing. Particularly the Circular polarizers and the UV's because they will get the most use. The UV's work perfectly as lens protectors and almost never come off. No noticeable defects.

The Circular Polarizers seem to not polarize as much as I expected, but they do a good enough job for the price. Overall, I'm very happy.

 "Nice Filter Set" 2009-05-13
By T.T.
This set of 3 filters should be the first investment you make to protect and begin using your new camera. Since many of the digitals now adjust for fluorescent lights, the fluorescent filter may not be so necessary, but the other two are just essential. A nice case was included. The price was excellent.

 "Lovely" 2010-02-11
By SEN
I began my photo adventures with a Canon 50mm 1.4 on a 30D, followed by a Canon 10-22 and a Canon 70-200 f4, all of them great, but I felt I was missing the "normal" focal length (50mm on 35mm film or digital full frame); the options were a zoom that covered the range (such as Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras), the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras, which was way out of my budget, a prime such as this Canon 35mm f2 or wilder options such as the Zeiss Ikon 35mm f/2 Distagon T* ZE Manual Focus Standard Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras or the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM Wide Angle Lens for Canon SLR Cameras both for a considerable price. After much thought I got this lens and love it: It's physically small, the autofocus is not USM so it buzzes a little (but nothing to worry about, it's not a huge noise or anything like that) but works very well and you can get good shots wide open at f2; By the time I had finally made up my mind its price went from about $260 to $320... But it's still worth it. Some alternatives from Sigma looked interesting but they have a bad reputation for quality control and I just couldn't take the risk... It's unfortunate they haven't thought of offering an international warranty (I checked locally).

I also got the Canon EW65II Lens Hood for Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 & EF 35mm f/2 SLR Lenses, which snaps into place and can be mounted in a reversible manner, and will also get a transparent/UV filter for protection (it's always better to shoot without filters unless they are for special effects such as a polarizer, but it gives me greater peace of mind and I try to take it off if possible). If you're still on the fence I would highly recommend it.

"Good Image Quality - Frustrating Auto Focus" 2010-02-10
By Ryan E. Duncan (Milwaukee, WI United States)
I bought this lens because I wanted a good, fast prime lens for indoor use on my 50D. I also own the EF 50mm f/1.4 which I love, but indoors I find it less useful due to the crop frame sensor of the 50D.

I knew I wanted something in the wide angle range (due to the 1.6x crop frame of the camera) so I looked at the EF 28mm f/1.8 USM and the EF 35mm f/2.0. Based on reviews here at Amazon as well as outside websites I decided to go with the 35mm f/2.0 because the 28mm seems to have consistently negative reviews. I was also able to pick up this 35mm for about $130 less than the 28mm so it seemed to be a better investment.

I have now had the 35mm for about 1 month and taken over 300 photos with it on my camera. All in all I am happy with the lens and it has been on my camera nearly the whole time I have owned it. The images are sharp and the color is good. This is a fast lens and you can get some great bokeh when you open it up wide which is nice when you want to get creative with your photos.

However, I am more than frustrated with the auto focusing with this lens. It does not seem to want to focus on the subject of the frame, many images end up out of focus if I let the camera do all of the work. When left to its own devices, many times this lens will not produce images that are in focus, or at east not what you wanted in focus.

The only way I can get the great photos that this lens is capable of is when I take control of the focusing points and select exactly what I want in focus for each shot. This is not overly difficult and I am used to it because I am generally selecting the desired auto focus point for each shot, but this lens seems to be abnormally challenged at focusing on the desired subject on its own.

This has been a major disappointment because unfortunately I know that when someone else (who is not familiar with how to use the camera) picks it up it is 50/50 whether the photo turns out, especially in low light situations.

I feel that this is a problem if you are looking at this lens to be a good all around indoor prime for candids and family shots and especially if you want to be in some of the photos.

This is a good lens if you are familiar with how to use the auto focus selectivity features of your camera. The image quality is good, similar to the 50mm f/1.4, and definately better than any kit lens you may have, but don't expect to put this lens on your camera and never have to learn how to really use it on your camera.

"Versatile - Even Indoor Portraits" 2010-01-21

"My first dip into the "Prime" pool." 2010-01-13
By Lrn2Go (Oklahoma City, Ok)
This product has a good number of excellent reviews that give you a general idea of what is good about this lens... so I'll be brief.

Reasons I love it:

* Very quick to focus

* Sharp

* Useful in full body portraits to head-shots (on a 1.6x DSLR like a Rebel/450D)

* Great low-light lens (I use it all the time in clubs)

* Very light weight

* Useful focus window (unlike the Rebel XSI/XS/T1i's kit 18-55mm IS lens)

* "EF" (Useful on full frame, and "crop" frame sensor camera's... so I'll be keeping it as I upgrade)

* Solid build quality (metal lens mount, light, but has a good "solid" heft to it)

* About equivalent to a 50mm lens on a full frame sensor or 35mm format camera.

* Good "carry around" lens (Light, unobtrusive, small, good focal length, very useful aperature)

* Shallow depth of field at f/2, great for soft backgrounds

Things that I noticed (which bring it down to "great" and not "amazing"):

* My lens tends to over-expose images from what the meter says (add a little -EV and you're golden. On the plus side of this, you get a brighter picture in the dark than you were expecting)

* Focus ring is very thin and "plastic-y" (works good though)

* No manual over-ride when in AF mode (not that big a deal)

* Colors are a little muted for my taste (bumping the saturation up, or post processing clears this right up)

* f/2 is shallow... very shallow (good focus is a must at this aperture)

* Background "Bokeh" reflects 5 sides of the aperture blades

* AF is noisy (in comparison to HSM lenses)

At it's price, I have no problem recommending it to anybody who's thinking about buying one. It's an EXCELLENT lens for the money, and much better build quality than the Canon 50mm f/1.8 "fantastic plastic" (as can be seen in the increase in cost, however). It produces better pictures, BY FAR, than the Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS f/3.5-5.6 at an equivalent 35mm length.

Yes, you should just buy it and be pleased!

My copy of this lens is extremely sharp. This is a very good alternative to the Canon 35mm f/1.4 L, f you are looking for this focal length. The focusing is a little slower and noisier than the current USM lenses, but it performs quite well and I have been very happy with it.

 "Get A Grip" 2010-02-19

The Canon BG-E3 grip was a good add-on for my XTI, it doubles the life of your battery, adds a little weight to the camera and makes it easier to handle (for me - the camera felt like it was always small and light) and adds a few buttons on the side so you can control the camera just as well when shooting horizontal or vertical.

Also a nice thing is it includes the battery tray to use standard AA batteries if you find yourself out in the wild without a charger, could come in handy.

"Wouldn't Want To Work Without It" 2010-01-23
By Don (Cookeville, TN USA)
When I bought my Canon Rebel-XT a friend recommended I buy the battery grip designed for the camera. I did, and have appreciated it every time I use the camera. It provides a much more stable grip on the camera (balance, etc.), allows for two batteries to be installed so you get the benefit of MUCH more power which translates to extended photo opportunities (especially with flash) before recharge, etc. The grip also has a push button on it that allows you to fire the camera as an alternative to the button on the camera. So, if you are holding the camera in the vertical axis (versus normal horizontal) you won't have to hold your 'trigger finger' at a cockeyed angle to operate the camera.....the grip has a button right where you'll want it for this kind of shooting. The battery tray has a well-designed rotary lock to keep it in place (inside the housing) and makes battery removal extremely easy and quick.

Mostly, I just appreciate the grip for the great job it does in giving me more to grab on to with respect to the camera,...and it makes a stable base when you set the camera down. I predict you'll greatly appreciate the features I've mentioned, and expecially the extra power so you don't have to be recharging nearly as often.

 "Battery Grip" 2010-01-09
By R. Zamora (San Diego CA)
This is one of the best items you can purchase for your camera, First, I can't prove it but from my personal use, I feel as if the battery life was three times longer then the single battery, it seems to just hold the charge for a very long time, The camera will still operate on a single battery, or you can insert a cartridge for AA batteries. Second if you have any long length to your glass (i.e. 70-200 or more) it gives the camera a more balanced, sturdy feel to it, it is much easier to hold with the grip. the only draw backs is it does make the camera a bit larger and adds a little more weight to it, but still don't feel it should hold you back from purchasing it, Overall five stars for this or any battery grip.

 "Misleading" 2009-12-22
By W. Lu
I bought these filters for two reasons: 1.)the price and 2.)the idea that they are made in Japan. Upon arrival the first thing I noticed on the box were the text "MADE IN CHINA". I open the box and examined the filters, and again written on the filters "MADE IN CHINA". I feel quite cheated. The filters were covered with finger prints and various smudges. Performance of the filters were rather mediocre.

I will not bother for a refund, it is not worth the trouble. Although they might not be what I want in a filter, for the meantime these do act as decent protection for my lens (hence the two stars) until I get my new set in the mail. But, I hope I have spared some potential buyers.

"It is not good for Telephoto" 2009-12-06
By Fernando Silva
It may be fine for short range photos. But when you go to telephoto with good lens, these filters blur the image. If you do not have good lens like Zeiss, you may not notice. But if you have good lens, you will see some blur quite similar to image quite a bit of out of focus. It is my fault to try expensive lens with cheap filters. HD2 may be a misleading information since manufacturer brand itself these attributes, it should have some kind of regulator agency like ISO or FDA or other to test photo products and state if it is real HD2, or if it is OK for telephoto.

 "Canon EOS Rebel T1i" 2009-09-27
By Armando Garcia Castilleja (Acapulco, Mexico)
This is a very complete package, actually you don't need nothing more. The camera is outstanding, right now I'm in the middle of the user's manual and I keep discovering very cool features (more then I expected).

The other items included probably are the downside of the package, the bag's quality is no good, looks and feels cheap. It includes a Tamron lens (70 - 300) which is very cool but it doesn't have stabilizer, being a large telefoto is very difficult to take stable pictures for a beginner, now I realize why the price was so low instead of the package that has the Canon counterpart of this Tamron lens.

8GB card included is excellent and sufficient, extra battery excellent and the lens cleaning kit also. The other items included haven't use them yet. My computer already has a card reader and the card wallet I don't see any use for it.

Overall, best package I found cost - benefit.

Read T1i's manual, you'll find very cool stuff!!, the only bad point it that this camera shoots HD video at full 1080p resolution but only at 20 frames/sec. I don't find that useful but anyway, this is a still camera not a video camera.

Enjoy

 "Great Buy!" 2010-01-26
By R. J. Aversa (Pennsylvania)
Was alittle hesitant on buying a lens via the internet. But did my homework and look at reviews. Boy was I impressed by this lens. Pictures are crisp and clear. I'm no pro, but then again I don't think this is a lens a pro would buy. Couldn't ask for a better value for the money.

 "A good freebie" 2009-09-13
By Terence Russell (Glen Rose, Texas)
I received this product as a freebie through another purchase. I have already used several of the items contained in the package although the tabletop tripod is worthless unless you have a inexpensive point and shoot camera. I bought one of these at a retailer for a dollar sometime previously and could not even get it to stand stable with a small camcorder. The lens cleaning equipment and the bulb brush have already come in handy!!!!

 "Nice little bundle..." 2009-07-21

This came free with a lens purchase I made. Not sure I'd buy this, but it's a good little bundle!

"Looks and feels cheap, but.." 2009-04-09
By Hubie
got it for free from 47th St., and no additional shipping charges, too. :) Tripod is not very reliable - I feel like the camera might tip over anytime. Of course if you have the smaller ones (I have DSLR), this might actually work better. Haven't tried the cleaning solution yet - it might take some more to convince me to try them on my lenses. :)

 "Handy" 2009-04-07

Came free with the purchase of my flash, but the kit is handy if you don't have cleaners. The screen protectors are flimsy and cheap but what do you expect for the price.
